Tutorial: Felt Flowers

My mom found a little article on how to make these flowers in one of my magazines. It isn't my idea, but they are cute and I am going to try some variations on them. Here is how to make them, and how the first ones I made turned out.

Start with a rectangle of felt, 6 inches by 2 1/4 or 1 1/2 is what was recommended. I used all sorts of different sizes, from 4-6 inches by 3-1 1/2 inches. Fold the felt and sew large stitches along the bottom edge.

Fold in half and snip petals in the felt, about 1/4 to 1/2 inches apart.

Here is a piece of felt ready, petals snipped and stitched along the bottom.

Pull the thread from both ends of the felt, making a circle, you can pull this as tight as you want, it will be more scrunched the tighter you go.

Tie the two ends of thread together and then stitch the bottom 1/4 inch of the felt together.

Make petal rings of different sizes and different colors. You can also snip the petals thin or thick, for a different look. To finish the flower, use hot glue to secure a circle of felt on the back of the base flower, then add a smaller flower on top of the base flower and finally, glue on a button for the center of the flower.

Here is an example of how it looks when it is finished! You could be the lucky winner of 1 of these flowers, check out the previous post!
